Funny, someone linked me to this after something I posted. It's kind of the opposite of what I was critiquing. In this story, the male fandom drags the character down by refusing her freedom, power, and transformation. (At least, this is what I get from a once over.) My post was that regardless of the fandom, the character is transformed into a princess despite what her wishes might have been, thereby fulfilling an annoying need to craft female characters as princesses and create unrealistic expectations for girls to live up to.

I just laughed when I saw the links were to you, because I thought - hey! At least someone knows how to point people to a guy with the ability to make an argument.

I like that with the posts you've made about this whole dividing issue, you ask a question instead of make a comment. It's good people skills as well as good conflict-resolution skills to ask certain kinds of questions to get people's thoughts rather than their rage.

Oh, thanks buddy! Sorry for the late reply on this - I'm incredibly disorganized and didn't realise you'd commented. While my opinion on the matter is probably known by this point, I like to see how people are rationalizing the 'other' side of the debate. I like to know what people have to say about a matter, and when people are 'raging' about something, it's important to try and diffuse the situation (or at least find out why people are angry), rather than launching into an opinionated assault.

I understand this is satire, but I'm not sure if this actually reflects your thoughts on the whole alicorn Twilight thing, which this is obviously referencing, or if it's something that has to do with sexism and stuff.

I read it the day that you linked me to it (amoungst other things in your gallery) but haven't replied until now, sorry

Actually you really inspired me with this to write a MLP fan...comic which I went a made a tumblr for yesterday 'ask twliciorn'. Ironically a few hours later the announcement was made XD

Anyway back to this... I seriously can't express in words how fantastically you compared this to sexism and depicted the brony as a 'controlling husband' type character. It's a really clever idea and it works fantastically! I love the question it ultimately raises, for even a children's cartoon, which is 'What if Twilight Sparkle wants this?' Would the 'Twilight is best pony' fans really want her not to achieve her dream?
I couldn't not write a fic on the idea, hope that cool with you >w<

I'm really glad you liked the satire. Recently I've been talking a lot with the lovely

, who feels very strongly about how females are depicted in this fandom. We both take issue with how bronies are seen as being males and are frequently described as being male in the media, and therefore this satire was born out of that general sort of discussion. You are very right: if the character wants the change, who are people to hold them back? Naturally, it does tie in with the 'controlling husband' aspect on a different level, so it's good that you can appreciate that.

I remember when I first got into MLP and I proudly told my brony friends "I'm a brony too!" and their immediate response was "Don't you mean pegasister?" ...I don't like that term. XD
It's almost as though there's some low-level sexism generally in the fandom, ironic being a show for little girls.. Although, that's not to say that I believe that all bronies are sexist

I'm going to be including a male character who will be a representation of the brony 'character' you've written about here, since I figured I'd undoubtedly have anti-twilicorn 'questions' (which, in fact, I've already gotten!). He's not central to the plot I have planned though >w<

That's some very nice art you've used on the Tumblr! I don't use Tumblr myself, but if you ever feel like showing me a picture you've made for it, or anything you think I'd like to see, then by all means note me/leave me a message on my page and I'll be happy to check it out.

There is a sense of low-level sexism permeating the fandom. I've had plenty of questions from females in the fandom who have been told they can't be bronies, which I find disheartening. Bronies are breaking no gender boundaries when they're alienating females.

Ok.. I am not sure if i hate this or like it.
First off... when you read it the first time it sounds like a guy just not wanting his beloved character to change..
ok I'm down with that.
But upon a second reading ... it seems to me a lil' more sexist.
Like he is not only saying that "Hey I love you the way you are .. you dont have to change"
but he is also saying "I love you like this and if you have to change and cant control it.. or want to change to get something different or better out of life ... then I'm going to leave you high and dry."
It rather reminds me of the boy friend I had in junior college .. who did that exact thing. I got accepted into the 4 year program and he didn't ... he tried every one under the sun.. from being nice to being a bastard... to convince me that i was better off NOT "Growing wings" to speak.
It seems to me that while I can understand a person, or a fan, not wanting change... that you are placing limits on something you love.
I have to warn you friend, you do that with any woman, real or imagined, human or unicorn, When the change DOES happen...and IT WILL... your going to loose her because your to bloody selfish to accept that they have the right to be living beings and grow and develop as they see fit.
If it's a real girl... and you refuse to accept her change.. she's going to do what I did. She's going to turn around and walk out on you because ... while you can love her the way she is.. you cant love her the way she has to be.
IF its Twilight Sparkle... your going to loose her to because your too bloody narrow minded to accept her and the paths that her character take.

SO I have to offer you this advice... if you can't handle your woman having "Wings", if you can't take the fact that she changes and may need to fly... Then may you never really loved her at all.
