Think about it: would your friend want you to be upset over how he might feel about your interest in MLP? Would he be happy that you hypothetically can't sleep at night, or that you feel torn up inside?
Something I've found to be helpful is to roleplay the situation out. Construct a confession scenario in your head and tell your friend that you like My Little Pony. This can be a great release, and it can help you cope with your loss a bit more.
#123: The brain has a tremendous capacity for self-deception.
Based on what I've learned in psychology courses, it all boils down to associations. Recent research in the field of neuroscience has revealed that it's possible the brain works by hanging various concepts around an object. For instance, when you try to remember a face, you might remember that it was round, that it had blue eyes, brown hair, and a nice smile. By the same logic, a phobia might be related to your brain associating an object or circumstance with the concept of fear. It's not rational, but then the process for memory and such is not rational in the first place.
Immersion may not be enough, however. It could also be a mistake. Some connections are too strong to break, and without the help of a trained psychologist in the field of phobia reversal, immersing yourself in the show could actually be strengthening the connections you're trying to break.
I would suggest trying to find a psychologist that deals with phobias. He may be able to help you get over your fear.
I will also add that if you do, you must put complete trust in him to do his job. Without it, your brain will guard those connections and make it harder for you to get rid of them.
#124: One should only draw and paint and all those wonderful things artists do if one loves doing it.
It really is as simple as that.
uhh, i dont think she watched all of it
Speaking of the phobia of afraid of ponies or horses, ask yourself, do they cause you any harm or give nightmares that will literally cause your heart to stop? When we are young, we tend to be afraid of things and sometimes even the smallest of pain and result in us to cry. When growing up, the harmless phobias should not cause damage. Well Cudpug, I don't know about you, that's my opinions when it comes to harmless phobias like this, I classify them between harmless, moderate and harmful. Think of it in this order based on the harm or risk rate : Clowns, Rats, Venomous Creatures. The horses wise, I vote it as moderate when you're riding on one, otherwise, it's harmless when you only just look at it.
#124, artwork wise, today I still got some harsh words when I drew my years ago artwork which was Photoshop drawn and had poor skills with it, that particular artwork was Fairly Odd Parents featuring Timmy, the Fairies and Tootie while the background features Jesus in FOP style. I've done a lot of crappy sketches and artworks in the past, to me today, they suck pretty hard. It may not be for everybody but what's crucial to know is that some criticisms can help to improve although it's also painful.
Whenever I got feedbacks or comments that are harshly negative or I receive no comment at all, normally I leave it idle while the bad comment goes into "hiding". I wouldn't mind that goes to the "Scraps" category. But what's important is that it's fanart as we enjoy it here the most. Original artworks are more likely to receive less praise and feedback.
And lc's reply to the last one was spot on. Nothing but respect for him for saying that.
In all seriousness, though. Maybe I'll slide a hint of credit to myself, under the table. No one would notice.
